President pledges to build a skilled
professional workforce
[March 13, 2010]
President Mahinda Rajapaksa pledged to build a workforce rich in technological and language skills and high standards of professionalism.
He said he would create an environment in which no one put a profession of others into disgrace. The President was speaking at a Conference to educate the members of the working class about the Mahinda Chintanaya - Idiri Dekma at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium yesterday.
He said the working community is not ready to let down the motherland in the face of narrow political advantages. Some parties boasted on many election promises during past few years.
President Rajapaksa said the working class proved themselves at the last Presidential Election that they cannot be taken for a ride by giving false promises.

93,823 IDPs to be resettled
[March 12, 2010]
The total number of IDPs to be resettled is 93,823 while a total of 182,946 have been resettled or released on humanitarian grounds as at March 10, 2010, stated the Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights, Mahinda Samarasinghe today (12 March).
At present, 61,898 IDPs are at 6 sites in Vavuniya while 1347 IDPs are at 2 sites in Jaffna. Another 1604 are at hospitals with their families. Accordingly, a total of 64,849 IDPs are in zones as at March 10.The Minister further stated that 24,032 are out of camps on free movement while another 4942 have not reported back to the camps on the date indicated by the IDPs. Accordingly, a total of 28,974 are outside the camps as at March 10.
